At Advanced Decks we recommend that we build your templates, but we understand that there are die hard DIY'ers that want to do it themselves.

When building a deck, the first and most important step is to build an accurate and sturdy template. Advanced Decks recommends building a hard template because it provides us with a more precise template, which in turn produces a more precise deck. The old addage of 'a job is only as good as the preperation' cannot be more true when building an Aikona deck.

Included in the link below is a fairly simple layout of how we would build a hard template. Please take a moment to look it over. It will seem quite complicated, but we assure you that it is easier than it appears. The trick is to include as much information about the area as possible by using certain markings and comments.
